Project Overview

The Brief: Client wanted to test a new type of OLE (Overhead Electric Line) in a tunnel at St Pancras Station in London. The Test section was 30 meters long and we developed, built a system that controlled 6 cameras and 6 lights to turn on/off every a train passed 24hrs a day.

Algorithms were constructed to record all train movements, as well as turning on/off 6 cameras a long with lights. All train footage was stored locally and retrieved every months for review. This trial lasted 6 months.

  • Software/Hardware Development
  • Automatic storage of all footage locally
  • Custom camera algorithms and functions were developed

Out of love for stylish & functional
user flow and for taking pride in supporting our clients.

01. Development

This is a Linux platform development. To work underground in a tunnel with 25,000 volts 3 meters away from the cameras, lighting and camera troller. We used a microwave sensor to alert our software that a train was passing and to turn on the camera and lights and to automatically turn off when the train had passed.

02. Concept Design

We created software that interfaced with the 6 camera and 6 lights. The small computer and connector sockets were all put into a rugged orange peli case for protection, along with a small peli case for the microwave sensor.

03. Implementation

Development time was 3 months. Had a successful launch. The Cameras were shooting at 2000fps to get great slow motion footage of the pantograph going over the new test aluminium OLE overhead line.

04. Design Pride

Network Rail were delighted with the results as were there contractor Balfour Beatty. We enjoy working on this unique assignment, designing the custom camera functionality and functions.
